Silent Runner takes advantage of hot pace in Lake Huron Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Favored Silent Runner mowed down all the speed in a daylight score in Friday’s $100,000 Lake Huron Stakes for Ontario-sired 3-year-old males at Woodbine.
Uncle Joe and Light the Lamp lit it up in a hotly contested pace war in the five-furlong inner turf dash, while Silent Runner bided his time in third under David Moran.
Silent Runner took control in the stretch and drew away late to prevail by 1 1/2 lengths over Light the Lamp, in a posted final time of 56.78 seconds. Bossy Holiday finished third and was followed by Uncle Joe and a troubled Souper Rush. Chairman Bob was scratched.
Following a stewards’ inquiry, Light the Lamp was disqualified to last for not giving Souper Rush sufficient room while cutting over shortly after the break.
