Silent Native can keep trainer rolling

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Trainer Phil Hall is hoping his hot streak continues when he runs Silent Native in a $25,000 claiming race for 3-year-olds at Hastings on Friday evening. The 6 1/2-furlong sprint drew a well-matched field of eight horses. It goes as race 4 on a seven-race card that begins at 7 p.m. Pacific.
Hall had the best day of his career when he won back-to-back stakes on B.C. Cup Day last Monday. Lord Vancouver didn’t disappoint as the favorite in the $50,000 Stellar’s Jay for 3-year-olds, and then Calgary Caper pulled off a huge upset when he rallied from last to win the $75,000 Pacific Customs Brokers Classic. He paid $54.60.
The only way the day could have been better for Hall was if Otis Brown had finished first instead of second in the first race.
“It was a great day,” said Hall. “If Otis Brown had won the first race, Calgary Caper would have been my sixth straight winner. Things couldn’t be going any better at the moment.”
Hall said Lord Vancouver and Calgary Caper came out of their races in good shape, but he wasn’t sure where they will make their next starts.
“They seem fine, but they haven’t gone back to the track yet,” Hall said on Wednesday.
Lord Vancouver will be pointed to the Grade 3, $150,000 British Columbia Derby on Sept. 10. Hall said he might train him into the race. The next stakes at Hastings for 3-year-olds is the $50,000 Sir Winston Churchill Derby Trial on Aug. 22.
“He might go in the Trial if he’s telling me he wants to run,” said Hall.

KEY CONTENDERS
Silent Native, by Storm Victory
Last 3 Beyers: 61-60-60
◗ He went gate to wire in a $16,000 claiming race on July 22 and could be dangerous if he can stalk what figures to be a fast and contested pace.
Power Corrupt, by Storm Victory
Last 3 Beyers: 51-69-47
◗ Trained by Mike Anderson, he will be looking for his first win since he won the $100,000 Jack Diamond Futurity last Sept. 20.

◗ He finished sixth as the favorite in Silent Native’s latest win, but the shape of Friday’s race should work in his favor.
Circus Ride, by Sidney’s Candy
