Sight Success gets in light, picks up Moreira in Happy Valley feature

A low weight assignment, the presence of a popular jockey, and a troubled trip in the not-too-distant past combine to make Sight Success an attractive prospect in Wednesday’s Class 2 handicap feature at six furlongs at Happy Valley Racecourse in Hong Kong.

A 5-year-old Australian-bred, Sight Success will be ridden by Joao Moreira, the leading rider at the 2020-21 Hong Kong season and a contender for the same title this season.

Sight Success will carry 119 pounds, much lower than 131-pound topweight Grateful Heart, who will be ridden by Zac Purton, the current leading rider in Hong Kong. The new season began earlier this month.

Sight Success has not raced since a fifth-place finish in a six-furlong handicap on the all-weather track at Sha Tin Racecourse on July 4 in the final weeks of the previous season.

In his most recent start on turf, Sight Success was second by a neck in a Class 3 handicap at six furlongs on turf at Happy Valley on June 9. Sight Success was closing with interest when jockey Chad Schofield’s whip was knocked from his hand.

Trained by John Size, Sight Success has won 3 of 7 starts. This is a tougher class of rivals than Sight Success has faced in recent starts, but the booking of Moreira – and a low weight assignment – could offset that challenge.

Sight Succcess, who breaks from post 11, is quick enough to lead, but is more likely to track Harmony and Rich, who has won three races at Happy Valley, all since mid-March. In his final start of the 2020-21 season, Harmony and Rich was 12th in a Class 2 handicap on the all-weather track at Sha Tin, fading through the stretch.

Loving a Boom and Igniting, who were third and fourth in the same race on June 9 as Sight Success, have leading chances in this field. Igniting tends to run as a stalker, while Loving a Boom races as a closer.

The Class 2 feature is the final race on an eight-race program at Happy Valley that begins at 7:15 a.m. Eastern, or 4:15 a.m. Pacific, on Wednesday. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
