Siding Spring may run in Rebel
Siding Spring, who ran fifth in the Grade 3, $500,000 Southwest last Monday at Oaklawn Park in his first start since the Breeders’ Cup, will be considered for the Rebel Stakes, said trainer Mark Casse. The Grade 2, $900,000 race will be run March 19.
Siding Spring broke from the No. 11 hole in the Southwest, set the pace, and finished 6 1/4 lengths behind the winner, Suddenbreakingnews. For the effort, Siding Spring earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 83.
“We may run him back in the Rebel,” Casse said. “That was an interesting race the other day. I was surprised to see him on the lead, and he ran well. I thought it was a good race, and he’ll improve because of it.”
Casse noted that Siding Spring galloped out strongly in the Southwest.
◗ Gulfstream Park invader Miss Inclusive will make her two-turn debut in the sixth race Sunday. She goes in an optional $62,500 claiming race for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles. McPeek will counter with Cold Dish and Sensuous Pat.
