Side trip to turf planned for Rated R Superstar in Remington Green

Rated R Superstar has limited stakes options on the horizon at the Remington Park meet after winning the season's richest race for older horses earlier this month in the $175,000 Governor’s Cup.
As such, he could make a rare appearance on the grass.
“There’s a possibility that we go in the Remington Green,” said Danny Caldwell, who owns Rated R Superstar. “He hasn’t run on the grass in a while. There’s really not a lot for him at Remington for a while, so that’s a possibility.”
The $100,000 Remington Green is on the Oklahoma Derby undercard Sept. 25. It will be run at the same 1 1/8-mile distance of the Governor’s Cup.
The next dirt-route stakes for Rated R Superstar’s division at Remington is the $100,000 Jeffrey A. Hawk Memorial on Dec. 17.

Caldwell noted the last time Rated R Superstar ran on turf was the 2018 Remington Green, when he closed from 10th and finished sixth by 3 1/4 lengths. One start prior, Rated R Superstar was fifth in an Ellis Park turf stakes, and was beaten 1 3/4 lengths. He would be looking for his first turf win in the Remington Green.
“We’ll see,” Caldwell said of a start. “We might get lucky and it might rain.”
Federico Villafranco trains Rated R Superstar. David Cabrera was aboard for the win in the Governor’s Cup on Aug. 19. Rated R Superstar, who is 9, earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 89.
“He got to run his race, even though it was a slow pace,” Caldwell said of the closer. “He kind of stayed close enough to get there at the end. David did a great job.”
Caldwell said Rated R Superstar emerged from the race in good order. He is based at Remington.
“He came back great,” he said. “The next morning he was happy and playing with his goat - biting his horns, playing with the goat.”
Rated R Superstar also won the Governor's Cup in 2021.
Caldwell is the all-time winningest owner at Remington. Last week, he became the first owner to hit 400 wins at the Oklahoma City track. The milestone was hit when Heza Freak won his maiden Saturday night. Caldwell has won 12 Thoroughbred owner titles at Remington.
