Si That Tiger romps in WTBOA Lads Stakes

Si That Tiger firmly established himself atop the 2-year-old division at Emerald Downs with an emphatic romp in the $50,000 WTBOA Lads Stakes on Sunday. The Blaine Wright trainee covered 6 1/2 furlongs over a fast track in 1:16.33, winning by 5 1/2 lengths as the betting favorite under Silvio Amador. The popular winner returned $4.88.

Owned by John and Janene Maryanski and Gerald and Gail Schneider, Si That Tiger lived up to the seeming edge he had in the way of a last-out Beyer Speed Figure of 66. That figure, earned in wire-to-wire fashion versus maidens on July 13, was far and away the best one among Sunday’s competitors. In addition, the winner is a half-brother to Longacres Mile winner Slew’s Tiz Whiz.

Sunday’s early pace was contested down the backstretch, with Kiss the Tiger along the inside, Si That Tiger between horses, and Vivacious Tribute on the outside. The winner emerged from the trio while the other pair backed up to finish sixth and seventh.

Impassable, trained by Howard Belvoir, finished the distant runner-up, and it was another 5 1/2 lengths back to third-place finisher Big Bowie.
