Shott Gun pulls upset in Heritage Place Futurity
Shott Gun became a stakes winner Saturday night, when he edged 3-5 favorite Aint She Tempting by a head in the Grade 1, $826,260 Heritage Place Futurity at Remington Park.
The race was one of nine stakes on the final night of the Quarter Horse meet. Remington welcomed a limited number of spectators, and patrons wearing masks enjoyed a clear evening and quality racing.
Shott Gun ($37), who won his trial for the Heritage Place, was prominent throughout. He covered 350 yards on a fast track in 17.34 seconds. Rodrigo Vallejo was aboard for owner Bobby Cox.
Heath Taylor trains Shott Gun, who gave him his third win in the Heritage Place Futurity behind Stolis Winner in 2008 and First Carolina in 2006.

Shott Gun is a son of Valiant Hero. Taylor told Remington publicity the horse will now be pointed to the Rainbow Futurity trials at Ruidoso Downs.
Inaugurator won his fourth straight race in the Grade 2, $232,000 Heritage Place Derby, proving a length best over Jesse D.
Inaugurator ($8.80) was sharp from the rail and covered 400 yards on a fast track in 19.54.
Ricky Ramirez was aboard Inaugurator, who gave him his fourth consecutive win in the Heritage Place Derby.
Inaugurator is a son of Apollitical Jess owned by Valeriano Racing and trained by Monty Arrossa.
Valeriano Racing and Arrossa were back in the winner’s circle one race later with Dexxter, who darted to a half-length win in the Grade 1, $210,000 Debbie Schauf Remington Park Invitational. Dexxter also races for Dunn Ranch.
Dexxter ($9.40) covered 440 yards on a fast track in 21.20. James Flores was aboard the son of Corona Cartel.
Arrossa, who also trains Heritage Place Futurity runner-up Aint She Tempting, told Remington publicity the filly would head to Los Alamitos, where she is paid up in both the Golden State Futurity and Los Alamitos Two Million.
Also on the card, Jess B Glory ($21.60) was a nose winner over Diamond and a Half in the Grade 1, $85,000 Junos Request for fillies and mares. The winner covered 400 yards on a fast track in 19.56.
Remington announced its title winners Saturday. James Flores was the meet’s leading rider for the third year in a row, with 62 wins from 262 mounts at Remington in 2020.
Eddie Willis won his 11th training title at Remington, with 37 winners from 236 starts.
The leading owner was Jose E. Guzman, whose horses went 14 for 35.
