Shotgun Kowboy, Gianna's Dream cash in again on Oklahoma Classics card

Shotgun Kowboy wins the 2018 Oklahoma Classics Cup

Shotgun Kowboy and Gianna’s Dream extended notable records during the $1 million Oklahoma Classics program of stakes Friday night at Remington Park.

Shotgun Kowboy ($2.20) won the $175,000 Classics Cup for the third time, darting home in front by 3 1/2 lengths. Gianna’s Dream ($2.80), meanwhile, captured the $130,000 Classics Distaff Turf for the third year in a row, with this edition moved to the main track, which was sloppy and sealed.

The races were among eight divisional stakes for Oklahoma-breds on a 10-race program.

Shotgun Kowboy has won now won four Classics races overall, starting with the Juvenile at 2. He won his first Classics Cup at 3 and his second last year at 5 before adding another Friday. Shotgun Kowboy controlled the pace as he was up by two lengths through fractions of 24.68 seconds for the opening quarter and 49.20 for the half-mile before going on to cover the 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.05.

“He did it easy,” said David Cabrera, who was aboard for C.R. Trout, the breeder, owner, and trainer of Shotgun Kowboy.

Shotgun Kowboy now joins Mr Ross and Zee Oh Six as three-time winners of the Classics Cup, the richest offering on Oklahoma Classics Night.

“He’s just something pretty special,” said Trout.

Rowdy the Warrior rallied for second, while it was another 2 1/4 lengths back to Tuff Kid in third.

Shotgun Kowboy is a son of Kodiak Kowboy and the Siphon mare Shotgun Jane. He earned $105,000 on Friday to improve his career record to 13 wins from 31 starts for earnings of $1,372,501.

Gianna’s Dream is now 6 for 6 at Remington, with all of those victories coming in stakes. She was always prominent Friday night, tracking Josie the E F Five through an opening six furlongs in 1:13.27 before moving to the lead for a 1 1/4-length win under Corey Lanerie. She covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.40.

Gianna’s Dream invaded from Kentucky for owner Jordan Wycoff and trainer Mike Maker. She is a 5-year-old daughter of Twirling Candy. Gianna’s Dream earned $78,000 to push her career earnings to $563,055.

Welder gets his Sprint win

Welder, an eight-time stakes winner, captured the $130,000 Sprint for the first time after running second in the race in each of the past two years. He barreled home by 4 3/4 lengths over pacesetter Shannon C. It was another 4 1/2 lengths back to Mr. N in third.

Welder ($2.20) came into the race off a victory in Remington’s biggest prize for sprinters, the $150,000 David M. Vance. He covered six furlongs Friday in 1:09.20. Cabrera was aboard for Ra-Max Farms and trainer Theresa Luneack.

• Charlie Webb ($8.80) tracked the pace and went on to a 1 1/4-length win over Pacific Typhoon in the $130,000 Turf, which was moved to the sloppy main track. The winner covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.21. Richard Eramia was aboard for Billy D. Taylor and trainer Kenneth Nolen. Charlie Webb is a son of Artie Schiller.

• Sydney Freeman ($7.20) defeated older rivals in the $145,000 Distaff, rallying for a 2 1/2-length win over Master’s Bouquet. The winner covered one mile and 70 yards in 1:42.39. Ramon Vazquez was aboard for Robert Zoellner and trainer Donnie Von Hemel. Sydney Freeman is a 3-year-old homebred daughter of Tizway and the Grade 3-winning mare Peach Brew.

• Starling ($135.80) upset favorite Fast Breakin Cash in the $100,000 Juvenile, darting to a 1 3/4-length win over that one while covering six furlongs in 1:11.27. Garrett Steinberg was aboard the front-running winner for It’s Mine Racing and trainer Megan Houser. Starling is by Mister Lucky Cat.

• She’s Shiney ($20.20) was a 9 1/2-length winner over Stormieis Blue in the $100,000 Lassie, covering six furlongs in 1:11.53. Bryan McNeill was aboard the winner for Adios Reality Farms and trainer Alan J. Williams. She’s Shiney is a daughter of Save Big Money.

• Three Chords ($41.80) was a determined half-length winner over Okie Diva in the $130,000 Distaff Sprint. She covered six furlongs in 1:10.24. Alex Birzer was aboard for Dream Walkin’ Farms and trainer Kenny Smith. Three Chords is a homebred daughter of Euroears.

• The 50-cent late pick four that had a minimum guaranteed pool of $100,000 returned $78,877. The final pool was $105,185. The sequence ran on races 7-10, and the winning numbers were 2-3-3-8.
