Shotgun Kowboy aiming for more glory at Lone Star

Shotgun Kowboy will be returning to the site of one of his biggest career victories Sunday when he runs in the Grade 3, $300,000 Steve Sexton Mile at Lone Star Park.
The last time the millionaire raced in Texas, he won the 2018 edition of the Grade 3 Lone Star Park Handicap.
Shotgun Kowboy is part of a 10-horse field for the Steve Sexton Mile, which is the richest race of the meet. Entries were taken on Easter, and the field includes a pair of Southern California-based runners in King Abner and Air Strike. Phil D’Amato trains both horses and has named Tyler Baze on King Abner and Joe Talamo on Air Strike.
David Cabrera has the mount on Shotgun Kowboy for breeder, owner, and trainer C.R. Trout. The horse tuned up for the Steve Sexton Mile on Saturday, working a half-mile in 48.80 seconds at Lone Star.
“Just under wraps, easy,” Trout said. “He’s ready to run.”
The complete field from the rail with riders is Title Ready (Richard Eramia), G’s Turn (C.J. McMahon), Phat Man (Adam Beschizza), King Abner (Baze), Analyze this Jet (Sasha Risenhoover), Air Strike (Talamo), Forevamo (Iram Diego), Minister of Soul (Lindey Wade), Mocito Rojo (Filemon Rodriguez), and Shotgun Kowboy (Cabrera).
The Steve Sexton Mile goes as the seventh race on a 10-race program, with a scheduled post of 4:40 p.m. Central.
Trout has a 25-horse division at Lone Star.
