ALTOONA, Iowa – Shock Hazard ($4.20) proved himself a class apart from five fellow Iowa-bred geldings by taking Saturday's $68,323 Gray's Lake Stakes by an untested 12 lengths. Seizing command from the outset under Ken Tohill, the Jon Arnett-trained Shock Hazard steadily increased his advantage throughout while covering six furlongs in 1:10.34.
Makoshika chased the winner and managed to secure the place spot, 1 1/2 lengths in front of Porme Nuther T R's mild rail rally for the third-place spot.
Arnett, whose runners are off to an astounding 14-for-34 start to the meet, conditions Shock Hazard for owners Jody Mueller and William L. Hobbs. The Dunkirk gelding collected $41,030 for his connections.
