Shivermetimbers to skip CashCall Futurity
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLEDEL MAR, Calif. – Shivermetimbers, who won a highly rated maiden race for 2-year-olds going one mile Thursday at Del Mar, won’t be wheeled back in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity at Los Alamitos in 16 days, but hopes are high for him, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said Friday.
“I was very happy with the way he handled himself,” Hollendorfer said of Shivermetimbers, who earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 89 when defeating Peace by a head in 1:36.94 on the fast main track.
Shivermetimbers, a colt by Shanghai Bobby, was making the third start of his career. He had finished third to McKinzie in a fast maiden race at Santa Anita in his most recent start Oct. 28.

He’s Stylish, the 8-5 favorite in Thursday’s race, finished a distant third under Tyler Baze after a dreadful start and also remains well regarded. He had finished second to McKinzie, three-quarters of a length in front of Shivermetimbers, in that Oct. 28 race.
“That was one of those nightmare deals,” trainer Phil D’Amato said Friday of He’s Stylish’s Thursday race. “He spotted them 15 lengths from a dead stop.”
“Fortunately, he didn’t grab himself,” D’Amato said, referring to when a horse overreaches with a hind leg and nicks the back of a front hoof. “Tyler said he pushed off and the ground broke out from under him, and then he slipped. Luckily, he stayed on.”
◗ Cool Bobby, a Shanghai Bobby 2-year-old colt who was an impressive maiden winner sprinting Nov. 11, worked four furlongs at Santa Anita on Friday in 47.80 seconds for trainer Peter Eurton.
◗ Jockey Corey Nakatani was suspended for three days by Del Mar’s stewards, beginning Thursday at Los Alamitos, for the disqualification of Bold Papa from first to fifth in the final race Nov. 19.
