Shirocco wins Coronation Cup

Shirocco, winner of the 2005 Breeders' Cup Turf at Belmont, turned away 2004 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf heroine Ouija Board in the Group 1 Vodafone Coronation Cup at Epsom. Shirocco broke well, and set a dawdling pace until Ace, runner-up in the Breeders' Cup Turf, turned up the pressure to make the front at the halfway point. Shirocco calmly rated off that rival until the straight when he easily disposed of Ace. Ouija Board came after Shirocco with a game run in the stretch, but Shirocco always seemed to find more. Longshot Enforcer lagged behind the slow splits before finishing with a solid rally for third behind the two favorites in the 12 furlong event.
