Shimmering Aspen drives clear in Timonium Distaff

Shimmering Aspen improved her career record to 6 for 11 on Saturday when she drove to a length win over Munificent in the $75,000 Timonium Distaff at the Maryland State Fair meet at Timonium. It was another neck back in third to Polite Pearl.
The Distaff was a 6 1/2-furlong race for fillies and mares. It was run around two turns.
Shimmering Aspen ($7.80) was always prominent, tracking fractions of 22.98 seconds for the opening quarter and 46.91 for the half-mile. She went on to cover the distance on a track rated fast in 1:16.95. Victor Carrasco was aboard the winner for trainer Rodney Jenkins.
Shimmering Aspen was winning at two turns for the first time. The Distaff marked the third stakes win of her career, behind the Twixt Stakes and Alma North, both at Laurel. She was favored Saturday following a third-place finish in an optional $50,000 claiming race over six furlongs July 26 at Laurel. The start was her first since November.
Shimmering Aspen is a daughter of Malibu Moon and the mare Aspenglow, a four-time stakes winner who earned $465,698. Shimmering Aspen, who earned $45,000 on Saturday to push her career bankroll to $233,110, races for Hillwood Stable.
