Shibboleth dies in England

Alan Shuback|Nov 07, 2002

Shibboleth, a Grade 3 winner in America and a Group 3 winner in England for Juddmonte Farms, has died after contracting laminitis at Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket, England.

Trained in England by Henry Cecil and later in the United States by Bobby Frankel, Shibboleth, a 5-year-old son of Danzig was a full brother to the very successful stallion Danehill and to the prominent stallion Eagle Eyed. Bred in Kentucky by Juddmonte, Shibboleth had returned this fall to England, where he had won the seven-furlong Criterion Stakes at Newmarket as a 3-year-old before being sent last winter to Frankel, for whom he won the seven-furlong Jaipur Handicap at Belmont Park .

In 12 career starts, Shibboleth won five times for earnings of $187,808.
