She’sonthewarpath's strategy pays off in Ellis Park Turf

HENDERSON, Ky. – Strategy came into play Sunday when She’sonthewarpath finally wore down heavily favored Dominga in posting another stakes victory in the $75,000 Ellis Park Turf.
Ridden by Adam Beschizza, She’sonthewarpath stayed close to front-running Dominga from the opening bell, pushing past with about a quarter-mile to go and persevering from there for a neck triumph.
“I told Adam, ‘Don’t let them get too far away from you,’ ” said Steve Margolis, who trains She’sonthewarpath for Robert and Lawana Los. “He rode a great race.”

She’sonthewarpath, a homebred 5-year-old by Declaration of War, returned $6.80 as second choice in a field of six fillies and mares after finishing the 1 1/16-mile distance in 1:44.-8 over firm going.
Pass the Plate was along late to be third, another 1 1/4 lengths behind Dominga, the even-money favorite. Sister Hanan, High Regard, and Nope rounded out the order, while Enjoyitwhilewecan and Alnaseem were early scratches from an original cast of eight.
She’sonthewarpath now has won seven of 18 starts, including four stakes wins, all on turf and all ungraded.
“She’s just a hard knocker who shows up every time,” Margolis said.
The $2 exacta (8-1) paid $10.80 and the $1 trifecta (8-1-2) returned $18.30.

Field Day, the 7-5 choice, was another two lengths back in third.
*** In the race before the Ellis Turf, Hozier ($4.60) was up for his second career victory when capturing a $52,000 allowance going a mile on the main track. This was the second start for Hozier in the care of trainer Rudy Brisset, having been switched out from the Bob Baffert barn. Hozier was second in the Rebel and Sir Barton for Baffert.
*** A three-day race week (Fridays through Sundays) is in effect at Ellis for the balance of the 31-day summer meet.
