She’sonthewarpath gets the trip in Albert Stall Memorial
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
NEW ORLEANS – She’sonthewarpath burst to the front in midstretch and powered home to win the $100,000 Albert Stall Memorial Stakes by two lengths over heavily favored Mitchell Road on Saturday at Fair Grounds.
Chantal Sutherland, She’sonthewarpath’s longtime jockey for trainer Steve Margolis and owner-breeders Robert and Lawana Low, gave She’sonthewarpath a sweet trip, sticking to the best part of the course, the path along the inside fence, for as long as possible. She’sonthewarpath stalked the pace, racing in the third flight behind Mitchell Road, and when Joel Rosario peeled outside at the quarter pole, Sutherland took the vacated spot, only steering outside to pass tiring pacesetter Quebec, and it was on to victory.

She’sonthewarpath clocked 1:42.25 for 1 1/16 miles over a firm, fast-playing course and paid $34.40 to win.
Mitchell Road, the 6-5 favorite and winner of the 2019 renewal of the Stall Memorial, was oddly taken back off a course that had favored inside speed horses all day, Rosario choosing to stalk what turned out to be a moderate pace. She lacked real spark through the final furlong and a half and held second by only head over Quick Witted. Zofelle lost precious ground and was far from the best part of the course on both turns and through the homestretch, made a sharp move around the far turn, and ran very well to finish fifth.
She’sonthewarpath, a 4-year-old, is by Declaration of War and out of Ha Ha Tonka, by Distorted Humor. She had a good run through the first part of 2019 for Margolis, the Lows, and Sutherland, a three-race win streak capped by victory in the $100,000 Ta Wee Stakes at Indiana Grand. In her most recent race, the Pago Hop here in December, She’sonthewarpath was third behind Zofelle, and the extra time Margolis gave her into this race probably was crucial.
“This filly has a lot of guts,” Margolis said. “We skipped the last race to give her a little more time. She’s a fighter. I told Chantal, ‘Do your thing, try to get a good trip.’”
The advice was heeded.
