Shes Our Fastest draws off to win Got Koko

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – Shes Our Fastest was an explosive winner of the $65,000 Got Koko division of the Texas Stallion Stakes on Saturday at Lone Star Park, rolling home by 6 3/4 lengths over Flight Queen. It was another two lengths back in third to Howaboutthiscowgirl.
Patrona Margarita, the favorite as a Grade 2 winner moving into a race restricted to the offspring of eligible stallions, finished fourth. Trainer Bret Calhoun called it a "flat" race from the filly and said she would be getting some time off.
"She's going to get a break," Calhoun said.
Shes Our Fastest ($10.80) was content to settle off the pace set by Howboutthiscowgirl, who took the field through fractions of off 24.24 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.80 for the half-mile, and 1:12.28 for six furlongs. Shes Our Fastest angled out and went on to cover the mile for 3-year-old fillies in 1:38.20.
Jockey Richard Eramia was aboard the winner for trainer Paul Duhon.
“Richard had her in a good spot, behind horses," said Duhon. "She relaxed. She couldn’t see any open ground. She sat there and I knew when he went to go outside – you know what he’s thinking, he’s got so much horse he's got to go somewhere – so I felt good. When I saw him go outside, I knew it was on.”
Shes Our Fastest is a daughter of Oratory who races for Mark Norman and Norman Stables. She earned $39,000 for the win, which was her third from nine career starts. Last year at 2, Shes Our Fastest won the $50,000 Evangeline Downs Princess.
Duhon said the filly could make her next start in the $50,000 Lane’s End Danny Shifflett Scholarship Stakes, a 7 1/2-furlong race for fillies and mares bred in Texas. It will be run June 23 at Lone Star.
