She's a Go Girl, Momma's Gone Wild square off in optional claimer
Something has to give when She’s a Go Girl and Momma’s Gone Wild hook up in a $25,000 optional-claiming race that will serve as Friday’s feature at Northlands Park. The 6 1/2-furlong sprint for fillies and mares drew seven horses, and there isn’t much doubt that the action will be fast and furious during the early stages of the race.
She’s a Go Girl will be making her first start at Northlands following a sharp front-running win going seven furlongs in a $12,500 claiming race April 25 at Santa Anita. The 83 Beyer Speed Figure she received is her career best and easily the highest last-race figure in the field. She was claimed out of the race by Robertino Diodoro and later sold to Red Diamond Stable.
She’s a Go Girl has been training forwardly for leading trainer Greg Tracy, and she may have tipped her hand when she worked a bullet four furlongs in 46.20 seconds Saturday. According to DRF’s Formulator, over the past five years, Tracy has won with 17 percent of his newly claimed horses coming off a layoff between 61 and 180 days.
She’s a Go Girl drew the inside post, where Rico Walcott will have to decide if he’s going to send her hard or try to stalk Momma’s Gone Wild. More than likely, he will be asking her to use her very good speed as soon as the starting gate opens.
Walcott was aboard Momma’s Gone Wild when she won her first two starts this year for trainer Rod Cone. She was in complete control when she romped by more than 10 lengths in a $17,500 claiming race May 24, and she came back with another strong performance to win a $25,000 optional-claiming race June 6. She regressed in her latest race, though, finishing third after setting the pace as the odds-on favorite in a $25,000 optional claimer June 25.
Scott Williams picks up the mount, and he really doesn’t have any options other than to let her roll right from the start.
Inca Beauty looks like the one with the best chance of picking up the pieces if an all-out duel develops. Trained by Arthur Floyd, Inca Beauty ran an even race to finish fourth in a one-mile race at this level July 4. Assuming she can handle coming back this quickly, she should move forward in her second start this year.
