She's Explosive drops from graded stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – She’s Explosive, who has endured some tough losses in stakes, should be odds-on in Friday’s featured second-level optional claimer on the grass. All five runners in the six-furlong sprint for fillies and mares were entered for the second-level allowance condition.

The versatile She’s Explosive is a four-time winner in 11 career starts for Norseman Racing Stable and Sid Attard, Woodbine’s most successful trainer over the past two months.

She’s Explosive has started just twice this year. Coming off an extended layoff, she was beaten a nose by River Maid after leading through most of the stretch in the restricted Ballade Stakes on the Tapeta on June 4. She was a stalking second in the Grade 3 Royal North on turf July 31, a race won by one of North America’s leading turf sprinters, Lady Shipman.

A hot Rafael Hernandez inherits the mount on She’s Explosive from the suspended Luis Contreras. Incredibly, Contreras has been riding four of the five entrants in the sprint.

KEY CONTENDERS

She’s Explosive, by Old Forester

Last 3 Beyers: 94-88-65

◗ The portable rail is scheduled to be in lane 4, and she begins from post 1.

◗ She possesses tactical speed and could track all the speed to her outside before making her move. But if she breaks running, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Hernandez let her roll.

Veaisha, by Wando

Last 3 Beyers: 82-58-74

◗ After scoring twice on the lead in the spring, she never challenged in a June 18 allowance but then rebounded by winning a first-level allowance in front-running fashion Aug. 6.

◗ This is her grass debut, and she’s by a good turf sire, but neither her dam nor her half-sister A Mans Drink was victorious on the grass.

Silent Treat, by Silent Name

Last 3 Beyers: 61-68-64

◗ The two-time stakes winner finished up the course after flashing early foot in the Royal North.

◗ She has been mired in a slump, but her speed might be more effective in this race, her first non-stakes start since the spring of 2014.

Dancing On Fire, by Philanthropist

Last 3 Beyers: 65-64-66

◗ She enhanced her value by capturing a minor Ontario-sired stakes, the Rainbow Connection, on dirt at Fort Erie on July 26.◗ She has never raced on turf and doesn’t have much pedigree for it.

◗ She is being reunited with leading rider Eurico Da Silva.

Show Shape, by Saffir

Last 3 Beyers: 67-81-83

◗ The closer won two in a row early in the summer, including a six-furlong allowance on turf. She was never in the hunt while saving ground Aug. 19, when traveling a mile at this optional-claiming class.
