She's the Berries goes last to first in Classy 'n Smart Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – She’s the Berries ($3.60) closed outside from last to nail Red Cabernet on the wire in Sunday’s $100,000 Classy ‘n Smart Stakes at Woodbine.
She’s the Berries raced about five lengths off the lead on the backstretch, as Crumlin Queen set honest fractions in the 1 1/16-mile route for Ontario-sired distaffers. Red Cabernet came from second to assume command in the stretch, while She’s the Berries was in the midst of her rally, and they duked it out in the final sixteenth before She’s the Berries won by a nose in a time of 1:44.16.
Bear Paw finished another 1 3/4 lengths back in third. She was followed by March of Dreams, She’s Got Fire, and Crumlin Queen.
She’s the Berries was ridden by Eurico Da Silva, who won previous editions of the Classy ‘n Smart with Moonlit Beauty in 2012, and Strut the Course in 2014.
“The first turn was a little slow, but the pace started picking up,” Da Silva said. “She loves to wait, and make a good run on them. When she runs, she runs really hard. She’s just a nice horse, a very honest horse. She can handle any track. She can run in the gravel.”
A daughter of Badge of Silver trained by Mark Casse, She’s the Berries earned $60,000 for owner-breeder Brereton Jones.
