Shenandoah Downs in Virginia hosts one of its biggest weekends of the year on June 7 and 8 with over $550K worth of purse money on the line. The highlight is four rich Breeders Fund races for 3-year-olds of both sexes and gaits as the co-features of the two-day extravaganza. Both weekend cards offer 12 races, with Saturday kicking off at 3:05 PM (EDT) and Sunday getting underway at 1:05 PM. There are certainly some standouts in the four finals, but also the opportunity to play against a favorite or two to make a decent score. Let’s dig into the races: Race 1 (Saturday): $86,600 Breeders Fund 3YO C&G Trot Final You have to feel that whoever gets the lead in this abbreviated field is highly likely to go all the way on the engine and (2) HS JESSE certainly has the inside advantage on main rival (3) MANE MAN CHARLIE. HS Jesse drew inside his main rival two starts back and led all the way. Last time he sat a loose pocket and was certainly gaining late. Let’s look for the minor upset here. Race 10 (Saturday): $89,600 Breeders Fund 3YO Filly Trot Final The fillies look to be quite a bit better than the boys and I’m going to take a shot with (7) K J TITLE. This gal by E L Titan simply lost her mind behind the gate last week and spotted the field about 15 lengths. She then loomed but couldn’t make a dent in the margin late into the fastest quarter of the race by far. She should offer some value here and we just have to hope she behaves. (2) CAVIART GLORY blew away the competition in this final last October as a 2-year-old and rolled in her first start over the track on May 24. She’s clearly a big threat. (8) K J THE THIRTEENTH has early speed and has also been fairly reliable. She’ll get a big piece here and is a win player on her best. Race 7 (Sunday): $87,200 Breeders Fund 3YO C&G Pace Final (7) PAXAMILLION has trounced his competition in both preliminary legs and this son of Sweet Lou seems a bit too fast for these. (4) BDAY switched barns last time and was driven very aggressively during the mile in a narrow defeat. If he shows any further improvement, watch out! (5) CAVIART CASH has a win and a second in the series. He’s a player here with a smooth trip. Race 10 (Sunday): $91,100 Breeders Fund 3YO Filly Pace Final (4) TOYS LITTLE TINKER displayed speed at both ends of the mile two starts back in an upset victory. Last time she was bet off the board and had no real shot after chasing a much slower pace. There is definite upset potential in this gal. (5) PROPER LADY came to town from Harrington and posted the fastest mile of the series in 1:54 4/5. Daughter of Proper Respect has proven she can hustle away from the gate and lead at every call. (1) KJ BECKY has early speed, form and pylon position. Huntsville filly has never been worse than second in six starts this year. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter]
