Shenandoah Downs: Doubles for Paquet Jr., Morgan in Virginia Breeders Fund finals

Drivers Fern Paquet Jr. and Tony Morgan each had a pair of victories in six-figure Virginia Breeders Fund finals for 3-year-olds of both sexes and gaits on Saturday afternoon at Shenandoah Downs. It was also a big day for Buck and Judy Chaffee's Caviart Farms as they bred three of the four champions.

Paquet Jr. captured the $111,700 colt and gelding trot final with Harding Boy (by Gregory Pecs and bred by Gideon Brenneman) on the front-end in 2:00 3/5 for trainer Michael Whitaker and owner Tremaine Harding and also bagged the $111,100 filly trot final with Caviart Gemma (by Captain Corey and bred by Caviart Farms) from the pocket in 1:58 for trainer Ronald Millman and owner Dr. Scott Woogen.

The $107,800 filly pace final went to Morgan and Caviart Daisy (by Sweet Lou and bred by Caviart Farms) after she took the lead past the quarter and remained in front in a 1:53 1/5 tally for trainer Jamie Sullivan and owner Frank Chick, and Morgan rallied Britney Dillon-trained and William Hartt-owned Caviart Cadet (by Tall Dark Stranger and bred by Caviart Farms) to a 1:53 2/5 triumph from second-over in the $109,300 final for colt and gelding pacers.

The spring meet at Shenandoah Downs concludes on Sunday (May 24) and racing will resume when the fall meet begins on September 19.
