Sheer Drama works toward Breeders' Cup Distaff

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Sheer Drama, the leading Breeders’ Cup candidate on the Gulfstream Park grounds, continues to work forwardly for her role as one of the favorites in the BC Distaff, breezing five furlongs in 1:00.73 on Sunday, with her final half-mile in a dazzling 46.40 seconds. She galloped out six furlongs in 1:13.79.
Sheer Drama will do most of her major preparation for the Distaff over her home course before shipping to Keeneland about eight or nine days out from the race. Trainer David Fawkes, who vans his own horses, used a similar strategy to win the Breeders’ Cup Sprint with Sheer Drama’s half-brother Big Drama in 2010.
◗ The meet ends Saturday, at which time there will be a mandatory payout in the Rainbow 6. The potential for a big pool went by the wayside last Sunday after one fan had the lone winning combination in the Rainbow 6, resulting in a $130,712 payoff. There will be no racing here Sunday, with action on the circuit switching to Gulfstream Park West the following week.
