Sheer Drama Stakes rematches several old friends

Most of the eight fillies and mares set to run Saturday in the $65,000 Sheer Drama at Gulfstream Park know each other well. They have been familiar rivals for some time, dividing up allowance and overnight stakes at various sprint distances.
The girls will meet over seven furlongs Saturday. It’s the same distance six runners in the field competed at last out in an overnight handicap won by Don’t Get Khozy. She edged Restofthestory by a neck, and both are back in the Sheer Drama.
“It’s a very competitive field,” said Eddie Plesa Jr., who trains Restofthestory for Glassman Racing. “She’s training good, doing good. The last race was a good race for her. She had a little bit of a troubled trip.
“I think it’s our turn.”

Plesa is pleased with the development he’s seen with Restofthestory, a 4-year-old daughter of Jess’s Dream. She is looking for her second win at the meet behind an allowance victory in July. Restofthestory put up a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 80 in her second-place finish to Don’t Get Khozy on Aug. 14.
“She just seems to be getting a little better after each race,” Plesa said. “She’s coming into herself.”
Kevin Krigger has been aboard the tactical Restofthestory in her last two starts and has the mount again from post 2.
“Whatever the pace dictates is where she’ll be,” Plesa said.
Don’t Get Khozy owns the field’s best last-race Beyer, an 81, for her win over Restofthestory. It was the 12th victory for the late-running mare, who will break from post 4. Edgar Perez has the mount for Imaginary Stables and trainer Elizabeth Dobles. Don’t Get Khozy is a 5-year-old by Khozan and she is from the Group 1-winning mare Get Noticed.
Corey finished third as the favorite in the overnight handicap Aug. 14. Corey was prominent in the race, run on a good track, and finished 1 1/2 lengths behind the winner. Edwin Gonzalez has the mount from post 5 for EKB Stables and trainer Peter Walder. Corey is 4-year-old by First Samurai and a half-sister to Happy Farm, a Grade 3 winner of more than $700,000.
Race Day Speed ran fourth in the overnight handicap. Starship Nala was fifth. It was Starship Nala’s first start in nearly three months, and she has reason to move forward Saturday. Starship Nala is a half-sister to Starship Jubilee, a Grade 1 winner of more than $2 million. Jesus Rios has the mount from post 7 for trainer Steven Dwoskin.
The final runner to come out of the overnight handicap is Frankly My Dear, who ran seventh one start after winning an allowance sprint at Gulfstream.
The field for the Sheer Drama is completed by Bion Magic, a winner of two of her last three starts, and the 3-year-old Maryquitecontrary. Maryquitecontrary has won two of her three starts. She won an allowance race at seven furlongs on Aug. 19 at Gulfstream and was second at the distance in the $75,000 Azalea in July at Gulfstream. Luca Panici has the mount from post 8 on the daughter of First Dude.
