Sheer Drama returning for another season

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Trainer David Fawkes has been all smiles this week after learning that his big horse, Eclipse Award finalist Sheer Drama, will return to training in 2016. Sheer Drama, a 6-year-old homebred daughter of Burning Roma owned by Harold Queen, won two Grade 1 stakes in 2015 and concluded her campaign with a fourth-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff. She began her season with a second-place finish in the Sunshine Millions Distaff.
“They’re supposed to put the tack on her and start her back jogging at the farm this week,” said Fawkes. “There’s no date set just yet for when she’ll come back here to the track, but believe me, her stall is all fluffed up and ready to go.”
Fawkes said he’ll likely follow a schedule similar to last year’s with Sheer Drama. Fawkes said he’d “love to make” the Grade 1 La Troienne at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Derby Day with Sheer Drama, who finished second in that race last year.
“Right now, I’m just delighted to have her back as well as thrilled and honored to have her be named an Eclipse Award finalist,” he said. “I really didn’t foresee that.”
