DEL MAR, Calif. – Shedaresthedevil went past $2 million in career earnings winning Sunday’s Grade 1 Clement Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar, her third graded stakes win of 2021 and sixth career stakes win. The $3 million mark may be within reach this fall when Shedaresthedevil has a scheduled return to Del Mar for the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Distaff on Nov. 6. The winner receives $1.04 million. Trained by Brad Cox, Shedaresthedevil earned an automatic berth to the BC Distaff with a 3 1/4-length victory over Venetian Harbor in the $300,500 Hirsch for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles. The win showed Shedaresthedevil had rebounded from a third-place finish behind Letruska in the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps Stakes at 1 1/16 miles around one turn at Belmont Park on June 5. “It was impressive,” Cox said. “I thought she ran to the way she looked and the way she trained in the last month out of the Ogden Phipps. “It was good to get her back around two turns. It gives us a lot of confidence.” Cox said the 4-year-old Shedaresthedevil is likely to have one start before the BC Distaff, with the Grade 1 Spinster Stakes at Keeneland on Oct. 10 a possibility. The $500,000 Spinster is run at 1 1/8 miles, the same distance as the BC Distaff. Last year, Shedaresthdevil was third in the Spinster in her first start after winning the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs last September. The Spinster, her first start against older females, was Shedaresthedevil’s final start of the year. This year, Shedaresthedevil has won 3 of 4 starts. She is owned by Qatar Racing, Flurry Racing Stables, and Autry Lowry Jr.
