Shedaresthedevil nominated to and expected to run in Clement L. Hirsch Stakes

Shedaresthedevil is the top nominee for the top stakes next week at Del Mar, where the three-time Grade 1 winner will seek her second consecutive victory in the Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch.
The $400,000 Hirsch, a mile and one-sixteenth on dirt Aug. 6, is a Win and You’re In for the Breeders’ Cup Distaff and one of five Del Mar stakes Friday through Sunday, Aug. 5-7. Nominations for the five stakes closed this week. Below are short previews.
Twelve California-bred 3-year-olds were nominated to the $175,000 Real Good Deal Stakes, a seven-furlong sprint on Friday. Nominees include Grade 2 winner Slow Down Andy; multiple stakes winner Straight Up G, whose new trainer is Mike Puype; and stakes winner Smuggler’s Run. Big City Lights, 2 for 2 as a juvenile, was nominated to and expected to return in the Real Good Deal.
Kentucky-based Shedaresthedevil is expected to ship next week for the Hirsch, which attracted 12 nominees. Others nominated to the Hirsch include graded stakes winners Blue Stripe, Desert Dawn, Private Mission and Soothsay.
The $150,000 California Dreamin’ Stakes for Cal-breds at a mile and a sixteenth on turf is the supporting feature next Saturday. The 17 nominees include multiple Grade 3 winner The Chosen Vron; Grade 2 winners None Above the Law and cross-nominated Slow Down Andy; and Cal-bred stakes winners Carmelita’s Man and Jimmy Blue Jeans.
The Grade 3 La Jolla Handicap at a mile and a sixteenth on turf next Sunday is the second leg of the summer turf series for 3-year-olds leading to the Del Mar Derby in September. The 13 La Jolla nominees include Oceanside winner Balnikhov, who is expected to wait for the Del Mar Derby. Others nominated to the La Jolla are stakes winners War at Sea and Sumter, and cross-nominated Slow Down Andy.
The $125,000 CTBA Stakes for statebred 2-year-old fillies is the supporting feature next Sunday. Stakes winner Absolutely Zero is among the 15 nominees, along with runaway maiden winner Ceiling Crusher and Tom’s Regret, whose new trainer is Steve Miyadi.
