The 2024 stakes winners Shea Brennan and Speedy Wilson are noticeable absentees from Saturday’s program for California-breds at Santa Anita, but are in training for summertime comebacks, trainer Phil D’Amato said. Both colts are by Tough Sunday and are owned and bred by Nick Alexander. Speedy Wilson has not raced since a win in the Golden State Juvenile for 2-year-old statebreds at seven furlongs at Del Mar last November. He missed a scheduled start in the King Glorious Stakes at Los Alamitos in December because of an elevated temperature, D’Amato said at the time. :: Santa Anita Clocker Reports are available every race day. Access now. Speedy Wilson has worked three furlongs twice this month at Santa Anita. Shea Brennan finished first in the California Cup Derby for statebreds at Santa Anita in January, but was disqualified and placed second for causing interference in the stretch. The winner of the King Glorious Stakes in December, Shea Brennan was taken out of training briefly in early spring. He worked three furlongs on Monday, his first workout since early March. Shea Brennan and Speedy Wilson could start in the $150,000 Real Good Deal Stakes for 3-year-old California-breds at seven furlongs at Del Mar on Aug. 1. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
