ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Favored She Feels Pretty barely held off the slow-starting English runner Diamond Rain to capture a thrilling renewal of the Grade 1 E.P. Taylor, a Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” event on Saturday’s King’s Plate undercard at Woodbine.   Hurricane Clair set an honest pace in the 1 1/4-mile turf route while being tracked by 2024 King’s Plate winner Caitlinhergrteness. She Feels Pretty tracked the leaders in third under John Velazquez before making a three-wide bid to the lead entering the stretch.   Diamond Rain, who missed the break by about two lengths in her first start on this side of the pond, loomed into contention entering the lane and took dead aim at She Feels Pretty, who had opened up a clear lead. She Feels Pretty’s advantage diminished, but she got home on top by head in a final time of 2:00.80 over the firm ground.   :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! Velazquez said She Feels Pretty jumped on the bridle early in the race while swishing her tail.   “Somebody hit her from behind and she got really anxious,” Velazquez said. “I felt it when she switched her leads back and forth. You can see she cut through her bandages. She got hit pretty good. And then she got pretty keen. I had her covered up and then I had to get into the clear. It was a wrestling match with her and I didn’t want to move too soon. [Diamond Rain] closed really good. The last sixteenth of a mile, she got lost, but she got it done.”  She Feels Pretty ($2.90) earned $450,000 of the $754,500 purse for Lael Stables.   Winning the Grade 1 Natalma over the same course two years ago was the coming out party for She Feels Pretty, who went on to win four more Grade 1s, including the Taylor. The daughter of Karakontie, who’s widely regarded as the top older female on turf in North America, was also being considered for the Grade 2 Flower Bowl at Saratoga by trainer Cherie DeVaux.   “The last couple weeks, she was training so well, and it made sense to come her now instead of waiting a couple more weeks for the Flower Bowl,” said DeVaux, who signaled her intention to go onto the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar.   :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
