She Can't Sing hits the right notes in Chilukki Stakes
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – She Can’t Sing summoned up another big one at Churchill Downs when dominating the Grade 3, $298,500, Chilukki Stakes on a frigid Saturday evening.
Ridden by Brian Hernandez Jr., She Can’t Sing essentially duplicated a victory here of nearly 14 months ago when she earned a career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 95 in an allowance romp. Given another forward outside trip, the 5-year-old Bernardini mare again was clearly best when prevailing by 3 3/4 lengths over Ice Orchid in the one-turn-mile race.
She Can’t Sing, a Lothenbach Stables homebred trained by Chris Block, paid $9.04 as third choice in a field of six fillies and mares after finishing in 1:35.38 over a fast track. Liberty M D was third, while Coach, the 7-5 favorite, was never a factor when up late for fourth. Center Aisle was an early scratch.

Under the Churchill lights, and amid temperatures just above freezing, She Can’t Sing alternated on the lead down the backstretch before pushing on to a lead she would not relinquish. The triumph was the first in a graded race, and the fourth in a stakes, for a Bernardini mare who now has won eight of 33 overall and $816,588. Her three prior stakes wins all were on turf this year.
The $2 exacta (6-4) paid $56.34, the $1 trifecta (6-4-7) returned $102.80, and the 10-cent superfecta (6-4-7-1) was worth $24.63.
