Sharp Kitty makes move at half-mile, wins Christmas Past

Sharp Kitty paid $5.60 for her 3 3/4-length win over Temple Fur in the $75,000 Christmas Past at Gulfstream Park on Saturday.

With Matthew Rispoli aboard, Sharp Kitty had a perfect ground-saving trip in the 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-old fillies that was contested over turf rated “good."

While Temple Fur and Shesthewinner were dueling through honest fractions of 22.92 and 47.50 seconds, Rispoli had Sharp Kitty sitting comfortably in a stalking position. Sharp Kitty moved into serious contention at the half-mile marker, and after getting through along the rail, she emerged with the lead after six furlongs in 1:11.74. She edged clear in midstretch and was never seriously threatened by Temple Fur, who held on well to finish second. Bonita rallied to finish third.

The final time was 1:42.10.
