Shared Belief works six furlongs toward Malibu Stakes
Tom Keyser Shared Belief, fourth in the Breeders' Cup Classic last time out, is expected to shorten to seven furlongs for the Dec. 26 Malibu at Santa Anita.
Shared Belief, who will be favored Dec. 26 in the $300,000 Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita, worked six furlongs in 1:15 Tuesday at Golden Gate Fields.
Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, Shared Belief, the champion 2-year-old male of 2013, was beaten for the first time in his career when he finished a troubled fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita on Nov. 1.
Hollendorfer has kept Shared Belief at Golden Gate Fields to allow the gelding to work on the Tapeta Footings synthetic surface.
The Malibu Stakes is the top race on the opening day of the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting. The Los Alamitos December meeting ends Sunday.
