Shared Belief resumes serious training for spring campaign

ARCADIA, Calif. – Shared Belief, the impressive winner of the Santa Anita Handicap on March 7, has resumed serious training for a spring campaign without a defined goal, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said Wednesday.
On Tuesday at Golden Gate Fields, Shared Belief worked a half-mile in 52.80 seconds, a slow time that left Hollendorfer unfazed.
“That’s not unusual for him,” Hollendorfer said.
Hollendorfer said a number of races, including the $600,000 Oaklawn Handicap in Arkansas on April 11, are under consideration.
“We’re looking at a few things, but nothing has been decided,” he said.
Owned by a partnership led by sports commentator Jim Rome, Shared Belief has won 10 of 11 starts and earned $2,932,200. He won the Big Cap by 4 1/4 lengths with minimal urging late from jockey Mike Smith.
Moreno, second in the Big Cap, will run in the $400,000 New Orleans Handicap at Fair Grounds on March 28 as a prep for the $1.5 million Charles Town Classic in West Virginia on April 19, trainer Eric Guillot said.
Guillot said he would prefer not to run Moreno against Shared Belief in the near future.
“I’m trying to figure out what the general is doing,” Guillot said, playfully referring to Hollendorfer. “I don’t want to take him on if I don’t have to.”
