Shared Belief might be next for recently purchased Stilleto Boy

Stilleto Boy, purchased for $420,000 earlier this month following a win in the $250,000 Iowa Derby at Prairie Meadows, could have his California debut in the Grade 3 Shared Belief Stakes on Aug. 29 at Del Mar.
Stilleto Boy was bought by Steve Moger at the Fasig-Tipton July horses of racing age sale on July 12 and sent to trainer Ed Moger, his brother, later that week. Last Sunday, Stilleto Boy worked a half-mile in 51.20 seconds at Del Mar, which Ed Moger described as “nice and comfortable.”
A gelding by Shackleford, Stilleto Boy won his first stakes in the Iowa Derby at 1 1/16 miles on July 2. The $100,000 Shared Belief Stakes is run at a mile and is the lone open-company stakes for 3-year-olds on dirt at the Del Mar summer meeting.
◗ Contagion, the former claimer who was pulled up in the Grade 3 Cougar II on July 18 at Del Mar, recently underwent surgery for a damaged sesamoid at a San Diego County veterinary clinic, trainer Peter Miller said. Contagion will remain at the clinic during recovery and has a good prognosis, Miller said.
“He’s eating and getting around the stall well,” Miller said. “We’re optimistic.”
