Share the Ride ($10.80), claimed for $16,000 last summer at Monmouth Park, became a multiple-graded-stakes winner with a pacepressing victory in the Grade 3, $250,000 General George Stakes at Laurel Park on Saturday. The winner of the Grade 3 Fall Highweight Handicap at Aqueduct on Nov. 29, Share the Ride broke well under Victor Carrasco and pushed the early pace in between rail-skimming Laki and longshot Arthur's Hope. Laki let the other two go on with it after an opening quarter of 23.20 seconds. That left Share the Ride with the rail as jockey Alcibiades Cortez and Arthur's Hope forced the issue from the two path. After a half-mile in 46.13, Share the Ride cut the corner, dismissed Arthur's Hope and held longshot Tattooed at bay under a strong drive. Share the Ride finished the seven furlongs in 1:22.85 and was two lengths clear of Tattooed. Laki re-rallied for third and was followed by Lebda, Arthur's Hope, Informative, Chilly in Charge, Majestic Dunhill, and favored Funny Guy. :: Start earning weekly cashback on your wagering today. "The instructions were to not go to the lead, to make sure that I sat second or third," he said in an interview broadcast by Laurel. "When I saw Cortez on my outside, I just stayed patient, waited, and once we got near to the quarter pole, I said 'go' and he responded well." After winning the Fall Highweight, Share the Ride then finished second to Wendell Fong in the $100,000 Fire Plug Stakes at Laurel on Jan. 15 while wearing a bar shoe. The bar shoe was removed for his final start before the General George, the Grade 3 Toboggan Stakes at Aqueduct. In that race, Share the Ride finished third as the favorite.
