Shannon C wins Remington Park Turf Sprint on three-stakes card
Shannon C forged to a neck win over No Lak of Speed in Friday night’s $70,000 Remington Park Turf Sprint. It was another half-length back in third to Pomeroy Haze.
The Turf Sprint was one of three Oklahoma-bred stakes on the card. The races are expected to produce starters for next month’s $1 million Oklahoma Classics Night at Remington.
Shannon C ($6.20) tracked the opening quarter of 21.34 seconds in the Turf Sprint, then pushed on through the stretch to cover five-eighths of a mile on firm ground in 56.05 seconds.
Floyd Wethey Jr. was aboard for trainer Scott Young.
Shannon C is a son of Latent Heat and Miranda Diane, a six-time stakes winner who earned $416,258. Shannon C races for his breeder, B and S Racing, which also raced Miranda Diane.
Quality Rocket rallied for a length win over favorite and pacesetter Quarky in the $70,000 Red Earth. It was another length and three-quarters in third to Tommyhawk.
Quality Rocket ($7.20) sat off fractions of 23.22 seconds for the opening quarter and 46.62 for the half-mile before going on to cover seven and a half furlongs on firm turf in 1:28.45.
Ramon Vazquez was aboard the son of Backstabber for owner Jeremy Ball and trainer Boyd Caster.
Run Slewpy Run was always prominent for a three-length win over Country Daisy in the $70,000 Bob Barry Memorial for fillies and mares. It was another neck back in third to She’s All Wolfe.
Run Slewpy Run ($7.40) covered the seven and a half furlongs on turf in 1:29.21. Luis Quinonez was aboard the daughter of Den’s Legacy for breeder and owner Walter M. Jones and trainer Jesse Oberlander.
