Shanghai Bobby colt gets $115K at Texas yearling sale
An unnamed Louisiana-bred colt by Shanghai Bobby topped the Texas Thoroughbred Association’s annual summer yearling sale Monday when he brought $115,000 from Summer Grove Farm. The auction was held at Lone Star Park, which is a partner in the sale with the TTA.
The TTA reported 42 of 65 yearlings sold for total receipts of $506,000. The average was $12,048, which was up 28 percent over last year’s average of $9,416. The buyback rate was 35 percent compared to 46 percent at the corresponding sale in 2018.
The sales-topper Monday was consigned by Clear Creek Stud, as agent. The colt is out of the winning Cobra King mare Viva Vega and as such is a half-brother to stakes winners Southern Dude, an earner of $320,842, and Viva Vegas, an earner of $243,585.
He’s also one of 195 yearlings in the catalog for the Consignor Select Yearling Sale being put on by the Equine Sales Company of Louisiana on Sept. 5. The auction will be held in Opelousas, La.
The Carter Sales Company in Oklahoma has cataloged 46 yearlings for its Sept. 1 sale at the Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City.
