Shane Doan tops Turf Paradise stakes double for Diodoro

PHOENIX – Shane Doan validated the promise of his big maiden win here on Dec. 10 as he led all the way to capture Saturday’s $30,000 Lost in the Fog at Turf Paradise.
Shane Doan ($10.40), a 2-year-old son of Grade 1 winner Stay Thirsty owned by Randy Howg and trained by Robertino Diodoro, went right out to the lead under David Lopez in the 6 1/2-furlong event for 2-year-olds, set solid splits while a clear leader, and though his rivals closed the gap he never really appeared in danger, winning by 1 1/2 lengths. Bocephus rallied from well back for second while Trigger Warning, the 6-5 favorite, chased the winner from the start but tired a bit in the lane to end up third in the field of eight.
Shane Doan, now 2-4-0 from 7 starts, ran the distance in 1:17.04. The winner’s share of $18,042 gives him a bankroll of $42,032.
Gorgeous Ginny ($4.60) invaded from Southern California and dominated the $30,000 Arizona Juvenile Fillies, running the 6 1/2 furlongs quite a bit faster (1:16.28) than her male counterparts about 20 minutes earlier. Like the Lost in the Fog winner, she’s owned by Howg and trained by Diodoro. The daughter of Take Charge Indy, the 6-5 favorite off a third against tougher in a stakes at Del Mar on Aug. 2, stalked in fourth as 8-5 second choice Foggia set the early pace, assumed command on the far turn and opened up from there under Glenn Corbett, eventually winning by seven lengths while geared down. Dontkissntell rallied for second, while Littlesisterdon’tu stalked and finished third in the field of nine juvenile fillies.
The winner’s share of $17,856 gives her earnings of $82,256 from 2 wins in 4 starts.
