Shancelot headed to Santa Anita to prep for Breeders' Cup Sprint

ELMONT, N.Y. – Shancelot, the freakishly fast 3-year-old sprinter, will take on older horses in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship on Oct. 5, trainer Jorge Navarro said Wednesday.
Shancelot won the Grade 2 Amsterdam Stakes on July 28 at Saratoga with a whopping 121 Beyer Speed Figure before finishing a close third in the Grade 1 H. Allen Jerkens there Aug. 24.
“He came out of that race really good,” Navarro said. “He raced on a dead rail and still ran a very good race. We’re moving on.”
Navarro said Shancelot had a week or so of relatively easy training before resuming galloping Tuesday at Monmouth Park.
Navarro said he liked the idea of getting a race over Santa Anita’s main track before an intended start in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint there Nov. 2. He said Shancelot would likely ship to Santa Anta in mid-September.
