Sgt Pepper Feature dead at 25

Ty Wyant|Oct 15, 2003

Sgt Pepper Feature, the 1982 world champion Quarter Horse, was euthanized Monday after a stomach rupture. He was 25 and resided at the Kentucky Horse Park near Lexington, Ky.

Sgt Pepper Feature earned $900,237 and won 13 stakes races, including the Champion of Champions, Los Alamitos Derby, and Los Alamitos Championship. During his heyday at Los Alamitos, Sgt Pepper Feature was trained by Mike Robbins and groomed by Kelly Lewis, now a leading Los Alamitos trainer.

Tom Neff owned the gelding for most of his major stakes wins. Neff sold Sgt Pepper Feature, who eventually ran in claiming races. He was claimed by a group - including R.D. Hubbard, Bob Baffert, and Mike Pegram - with the purpose of retiring him to the horse park.
