Sez Who to add N.Y. farm

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The management team behind Sez Who Thoroughbreds, a commercial breeding operation in Ocala, Fla., will close Monday on the purchase of a farm outside of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

The 265-acre facility in Stillwater, 12 miles south of Saratoga Springs, will be called Sez Who Thoroughbreds North and will function as a commercial breeding farm featuring New York-breds.

Steve Silver, the director of operations at Sez Who Thorough-breds, which is owned by Richard Simon, said 55 mares will arrive at the New York farm in September. All of the mares are in foal to first-year sire Precise End, who is owned in partnership by Simon and Lakland North, the farm at which he stands in Hudson, N.Y.

Accompanying the mares will be 38 New York-bred foals.

Silver said there are plans to bring stallions to the new farm, but no decision has been made as to who those sires will be.

"Our primary thrust will be selling at the 2-year-old in training sales," Silver said Tuesday after he visited the farm. "New York-breds are very much wanted at the sales."

Richard Frank, a local veterinarian, sold the farm, which hasn't been occupied by horses since the late 1970's, to Sez Who Thoroughbreds.
