Sexton runner-up Mish to shorten up to one turn in Hanshin at Churchill
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – Mish will move to a one-turn mile for his next start after running second around two turns in the Grade 3, $400,000 Steve Sexton Mile on Monday at Lone Star Park.
Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. said Friday that Mish is being pointed for the $175,000 Hanshin on July 4 at Churchill Downs. The race for 4-year-olds and up will be run at a one-turn mile configuration.
Mish had won back-to-back one-turn mile races at Gulfstream Park heading into the Sexton Mile. He set the pace Monday and finished a length and a half behind winner Silver Prospector.
Mish earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 97.
“He ran a big race,” Joseph said. “[Silver Prospector] was a better horse on the day. That was [Mish’s] first try going two turns for us and I thought he ran credibly. He’s better at one turn. He still ran his race.”
Mish is owned C2 Racing Stable, which also is a co-owner of Florida Derby winner White Abarrio. C2 Racing Stable is comprised of brothers Clint Cornett and Mark Cornett. Clint Cornett is a resident of the North Texas town of Flower Mound.
