Several familiar names in Friday feature

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – With work having started as scheduled on Monday to install the new Tapeta racing surface over the outer third of the turf course, the new three-day racing schedule kicks off Friday with a nine race program highlighted by a one-mile allowance event on the turf. The headliner is restricted to Florida-breds and lured a bunch of familiar faces led by the classy Kroy, his recent nemesis Til the End, and Lahinch.

The versatile Kroy, a two-time stakes winner on dirt and graded stakes-placed on turf in his younger days, was beaten a half-length by Til the End under similar conditions here on April 16 before being awarded the victory via a stewards’ disqualification. Til the End wore down the pacesetting Kroy to seemingly earn what would have been his first win in nearly five months, only to be placed fourth for lugging in and causing interference in late stretch.
Lahinch drops in with statebreds for the first time in quite a while, having posted a pair of third-place finishes against open starter-allowance competition here and at Tampa Bay Downs earlier this season.
