Several cards cut short due to storms

Severe storms disrupted racing from Toronto to Kentucky on Friday afternoon, causing partial cancellations at Woodbine, Belmont Park, and Ellis Park.

Belmont canceled the final four races on Friday's card after a severe thunder and lightning storm rocked the New York City area between the fifth and sixth races.

Three of the final four races were scheduled for the turf, and the weather would have moved them to the main track.

Refunds were available for wagers placed on the pick six and the grand slam wagers. The pick-six carryover of $32,846 entering Friday was carried over into Saturday's final program.

Woodbine cancelled the 10th race because of washouts on the inner dirt track as a result of heavy rain that hit the Toronto area around 5 p.m. The 11th race, which was on the grass, went off as scheduled.

Ellis Park in Henderson, Ky., called off the last five of nine scheduled races when the track lost electricity because of violent lightning.
