HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Seventies Music closed fast in the slop for a nose win over a seemingly home-free Instamania in the $150,000 Rainbow Miss on Saturday at Oaklawn Park. It was another four lengths back in third to favorite Strollsmischief. The Rainbow was a six-furlong race for 3-year-olds bred in Arkansas. It was run on a sealed track on an afternoon in which it rained on and off following a morning when drenching rains and winds led to the track closing early for training. Seventies Music ($6.40) had one horse beat early in the Rainbow as Strollsmischief took the lead through an opening quarter in 22.59 seconds. The pacesetter was joined on the lead by Instamania through a half-mile in 46.06 seconds, and in the stretch Instamania moved past the leader and seemed on his way to victory. But an emerging Seventies Music, who had advanced steadily on the turn, began a determined run along the inside and hit full flight coming to the wire to catch Instamania. The winner covered the distance in 1:11.28. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! DRF Past Performances and Picks are available now. Rafael Bejarano was aboard Seventies Music, who was coming off a five-length maiden special win at Oaklawn. “He’s not too quick from the gate,” Bejarano told track publicity. “He always does that because he’s so big. He barely fits in the gate. But he’s been a nice, talented horse since the first time I rode him. He warms up by himself. He’s very professional. He likes to come from behind. “When I found a position at the half-mile pole, I knew I was farther back than the last time he ran. I knew he was going to come running. I didn’t expect the [Instamania] to keep going. It looked like he was going to be home free in the stretch, but my horse made a run and was flying at the end. I thought it was going to be really tight. My horse put his head down crossing the wire.” Randy Morse is the breeder, owner and trainer of Seventies Music, who is a full sister to One Way Or Another, a seven-time winner who has earned more than $400,000. The horses are by Street Strategy and out of the Midnight Lute mare Happy Anniversary. Seventies Music has now won 2 of 4 starts and earned $165,750. There will be no live racing Sunday at Oaklawn in observance of Easter. Racing resumes Thursday with a pick six carryover of $11,649. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
