Seven-pound apprentice Orantes to ride in Southern California

Apprentice jockey Ruany Orantes plans to resume riding for the first time since September in the near future in Southern California, according to his new agent Sue McBrayer.

Orantes has been working as an exercise rider for trainers such as Ron Ellis and Leonard Powell in recent weeks, McBrayer said.

Orantes has won four races from 89 mounts in Northern California, Oregon, and Washington State since his career began in the summer of 2022.

In his brief career, Orantes, who claims seven pounds, won races at Golden Gate Fields and Sacramento in 2022 and at Emerald Downs last year.
