Servis looking to sweep Demoiselle, Remsen

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Trainer John Servis will have contenders in both the Demoiselle and Remsen – Grade 2, $200,000 stakes for juvenile females and juveniles, respectively, at Aqueduct on Saturday.

In the Demoiselle, Servis will send out the uncoupled entry of Daisy and Maurer Power in a field of eight.

Daisy, a daughter of Blame, is 2 for 2, including a 4 3/4-length victory in the Grade 3 Tempted here on the Nov. 3 opening-day card.

“She set pretty quick fractions,” Servis said. “I thought she was going to be a bad third. She dug back in and drew off. That showed me she’s a filly that’s certainly able to run long, and she’s certainly a filly with plenty of talent.”

Maurer Power, a daughter of Violence, also is 2 for 2. She won a maiden race in July at Delaware but received only a 39 Beyer Speed Figure. After some time off, she came back to win a first-level allowance at Parx with an 85 Beyer.

Servis said that after the first race he kicked Maurer Power out for 45 days, and “she came back a different filly.”

“She put on some muscle and grew up a lot,” he said.

Daisy drew the rail and will be followed into the gate by Vindictive Ways, Wonder Gadot, Held Accountable, Indy Union, Maurer Power, Layla Noor, and Stakes On a Plane.

In the Remsen, Servis will send out Tap Rap Strike, a son of Tapit who sold for $875,000 at the OBS March sale of 2-year-olds in training. He was purchased by D J Stable and Cash Is King. Tap Rap Strike won his debut at Parx on Oct. 14 going a two-turn mile.

“He raced very greenly, quite frankly,” Servis said. “He really only ran the last sixteenth of a mile. He jumped up and down the whole trip, and I thought he was going to be a bad third. At the sixteenth pole, he decided he was going to run, and he went by the front two.”

Servis got Irad Ortiz Jr. to ride Tap Rap Strike, who drew post 10.

The Remsen field, from the rail out, is Bandito, Triple Dog Dare, Avery Island, Biblical, Catholic Boy, Millionaire Runner, Alkhaatam, Vouch, V.I.P. Code, and Tap Rap Strike.
