Serifos splashes to victory in off-the-turf Presious Passion
?q=100)
Closing day of the 2023 Monmouth meet turned into a muddy mess with turf races, including the featured $100 Presious Passion Stakes, rained onto a sloppy main track. That was just fine for the connections of Serifos, who is winless in six turf starts and is now 3 for 3 on wet dirt tracks after winning the Presious Passsion by 3 1/4 lengths.
Trained by Graham Motion, who had a tremendous weekend in Kentucky and Virginia, Serifos was ridden by Nik Juarez, who put his mount in a stalking position, made a run into the homestretch, and drew away late in this 1 1/2-mile contest.
Portos was 2 1/4 lengths better than third-place No Salt. The winner was timed in 2:34.98 over a sealed surface and paid $5.80 as the favorite.
Motion trains Serifos for his breeders, Gerard and Alain Wertheimer. The 4-year-old gelding is by Into Mischief out of Soldata, by Maria’s Mon.
