Senaira, Endless Light will make U.S. debuts off layoffs

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – An intriguing field of 11 fillies and mares, including one also-eligible, will go one mile on the turf, weather permitting, in Wednesday’s $44,000 feature to be decided under optional-claiming and allowance conditions.
The lineup for the main event includes a pair of horses making their United States debuts: the Chilean-bred Senaira for trainer Chuck Simon and the English-bred Endless Light, who hails from the barn of trainer Mark Frostad.
Senaira has not started since August 2014. She finished fourth against Group 2 company and fifth with Group 1 opposition during the spring and early summer of her 3-year-old campaign. She has been training with Simon at Palm Beach Downs.
Endless Light has been idle even longer, having gone to the sidelines after winning her maiden at Leicester in October 2013. Never worse than second in four starts, Endless Light is coming off a long series of works at Palm Meadows, including a bullet five furlongs over the turf in 1:00 on April 3.
Both Senaira and Endless Light will race with Lasix for the first time on Wednesday.

Another interesting member of the field is Lemon Lashes, who makes her first start since joining trainer Marty Wolfson’s stable earlier this season. The 5-year-old daughter of Lemon Drop Kid has also been away since October 2013 when she won a 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight race at Belmont Park for her former trainer, John Terranova.
Should the race be washed off the turf and switched to the main track, Winter Dawn would become the one to beat. Entered main track only, Winter Dawn upset Feathered when debuting last summer at Saratoga before being stopped on by former trainer Wayne Catalano after finishing well behind Condo Commando in the Grade 1 Spinaway.
Winter Dawn is currently trained by Lars Becdelamotte.
◗ There will be a carryover of $846,305 in the Rainbow 6 when racing resumes on Wednesday. Although no official date has been set for a mandatory payout should the jackpot fail to be hit in the coming weeks, management said the likely date to disperse the pool would be Saturday, May 9.
