Seismic Beauty, Sweet Azteca work for Del Mar stakes

The multiple stakes winners Seismic Beauty and Sweet Azteca were given workouts at Del Mar on Monday in advance of scheduled starts in stakes in coming weeks.
Seismic Beauty, trained by Bob Baffert, worked six furlongs in 1:11.60 for an expected appearance in the Grade 1 Clement Hirsch Stakes for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles on Aug. 1, a race she won last year.
The winner of the $400,000 Hirsch Stakes receives a fees-paid berth to the Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Keeneland on Oct. 31.
Seismic Beauty has won 4 of 9 starts, but has been beaten in her last two races – an 11th-place finish as the 6-5 favorite in a field of 12 in the BC Distaff at Del Mar last November, and a third-place finish as the 2-5 favorite in the Grade 2 Santa Margarita Stakes at Santa Anita on May 30, her only start this year.
Sweet Azteca won the Grade 2 Great Lady M. Stakes for fillies and mares at Los Alamitos on July 4 for the third consecutive year. On Monday, she worked a half-mile in 49 seconds, her first workout since the Great Lady M.
Trained by Richard Baltas, Sweet Azteca is scheduled to start in the Grade 3 Rancho Bernardo Stakes for fillies and mares at 6 1/2 furlongs on Aug. 16. Sweet Azteca has won the last two runnings of the Rancho Bernardo as an odds-on favorite.
